an early ride back from el estor, and a beautiful boat ride through the rio dulce canyon, drops us off at variuos caves and lands us on the carribean side of guatemala, in livingston. it immediately erlaxs us, there is a warm breeze, and the locals welcome us as we walk up the small main street. we are hearded towwards a hostel in the main garifuna area, which works out just great, and we drop our bags to explore.
not much to explore, and half an hour later we find the best way to spend the afternoon is drinking cuba libras (dark rums and cokes) on the main street in a cafe, and watching people go by. i get my hair braided by a local woman..starts of all nice, but by the end i was practically crying..only keep it in for one night as my face feels like its had a free face lift, and it hurts my scalp..always wanted it done..and was pennies... that out the way!
we spend the next few days doing this, we meet a few locals and find out a little more about the local culture. n that the people originate from venezula, and dont particularly get on with the people from down the river which appear to be taking over the place. we eat a lot of food, and drink a fair few mojitos, but after a day of going on a great hike to the waterfalls, and sitting not doing a lot, matt and i feel we have been fleeced enough...they ask for payment for everything..even walking you to the book shop! so we move back to the main land.... in fact only the weekend and lukey b will be here... time is going far to slowly!
