SAW A JAGUAR!!!
Me, Hayden and Lorraine had mile marker maintenance this week. Ever wondered who the mugs are who paint the markers all along the coasts? Well, we were those mugs. Walking 18 miles along the beach in blazing hot sun carrying 5 litres of water each and tins of paint, a shovel and the rest of our kits! Proper hi-h style carrying tins of paint on the ends of our shovel slung over our shoulders. We had to find decent bits of drift wood and then dig holes to put them in and then paint them with the mile markers. Hard work. But worth it because, whilst we were out..
WE SAW A JAGUAR
We got pretty close too. Unfortunately it had killed an endangered leatherback turtle that had come to lay its eggs (before she got to lay the eggs too so doubly sad) and was feasting on the turtle when we got there. The jag stayed for a while and we walked closer and closer along the vegetation to her. We got close enough to see her without the binoculars, looking right at us.
Also saw a dead green turtle too, also predated by a jaguar. Jags are feasting hard this turtle season.
14th March was Pi Day. An american celebration as they write the dates all back to front (3.14 for 14th march instead of 14.3) so we made apple pi and Kevin wrote Pi on the white board to 2084 decimal places from memory!!
Quiz night this week too. Our team (Me, Mark, Alex and Rich) won! Yay, got biscuits as a prize. All ran outside to see a coral snake on camp. That was nice, not seen one before. Really colourful snakes, venemous though.
Then stayed up all night again. Friday nights are becoming a bit notorious for me. Somehow I´m now managing to live on an average of 4 to 5 hours sleep per night and on Fridays I mostly get an hour tops as its our social night and they´re just to enjoyable to leave. I´m always one of the last to bed and first up.
Not sure if I can get pics to upload, it takes forever on this blog so I may just put them on facebook instead as its a bit quicker on there (sorry to those not on facebook!).
