Today we were off to wine country. Well the best in the US at least. We ventured off to my favorite winery in the state of California, St. Francis. As we drove out to Sonoma there were beautiful vineyards all around us. It was quite the site to see. We headed into to quaint little town of Sonoma and you could feel the pretentiousness fall upon you. Although it was a nice little town you get the feeling you don't belong. On the outskirts is a winery named St. Francis. This has been my favorite wine since 2004 when I first tasted it. My first taste of the wine was the 2002 Chardonnay which had a heavy oak flavory (yes flavory) with a buttery finish.....needless to say I fell in love. Ever since then I have been trying to find a wine that has that same pop. I had to find out the story from the source. We walked in and glanced around for a while before this man came up to us and realized we knew nothing about wineries. Luckily Elliot "From Arlington, VA" helped us tremendously. We thought coming in that we would be treated poorly and looked down upon, but not at St. Francis. Elliot taught us many things such as how to taste a wine (sip, swirl, sip, eat, sip), when a wine is at its best, how long to keep wines, difference between the red and white (I think we knew that one though) and so much more. Needless to say that we had a wonderful arrangement of whites and reds to taste and Elliot got me hooked. I wasn't in Wine Country less than 30 minutes and I joined a wine club. It will be nice to get away from the 2 buck Chuck every once and a while and enjoy some of the finer tastes in life. Well after St. Francis we headed back towards Davis with a little stop off in Napa, CA. After walking around downtown for a little bit we went home. Nice little town, but not somewhere I would want to live. After we got back we went to Ita and Marks for dinner with family. It was Nicks last night in the states before he headed off to Madrid, Spain to do a quarter abroad. Needless to say Ita was grilling him with questions on how survive in third world countries without food, water or toilet. Mark was a great chef cooking us up some sirloin for dinner! Lets just say most any meat tastes like filet when you eat nothing but turkey or ham sandwiches. Thank you again to everyone for everything. Today we are heading off to San Francisco and I look something fierce!
