Pacific Coast Highway Day #2

Waking up after a night of beer pong was a little tough, but we made it through. Heading northbound again we were off towards our first stop, the Hearst Castle. My mom said we had to stop and see the ranch, she even paid our entry fees...so we had to stop. It was well worth it, the place is amazing. We started off by watching the IMAX movie about W.R. Hearst, because we needed the background on the castle before we went up the hill. The tour was great, I only hope I get back there so we can see more of the house next time. The views from the top of the hill were incredible. After the tour we stopped off along the coast to see some of the Elephant Seals basking in the sun. These were a lot more active than the seals in La Jolla, and were quite entertaining. The only sounds they made were burping and farting sounds, check out the pics. We drove along the coast with amazing scenery and through Big Sur. We finally stopped in Monterey for dinner just as the sun was setting. We decided to walk out along the Fisherman's Warf and had dinner at the Sandbar and Grill. Great food, great atmosphere. Since we were only a few hours from Davis we decided to keep driving and make it to John and Jana's (Chris' cousins) house. I am meeting so many of his family members I've never met before....its great. We arrived pretty late, just in time to go to bed so we could get up and do wine county the next day......Kara and Chris

Hearst Casle (reply) Mar 29, 2008 10:47 EST by jeffgoing
Did you get a chance to stop in Cambria? It's about seven miles south of Hearsts Castle. Barb,Stevie and me are going up in June for a tour of the Castle and a few days of wine tasting. Yippeee. We were there last year and had a blast. Keep it simple and have fun.
Uncle Jeff
