As we left before we had quite the adventure in the Bayou.
We went to Airboat Adventures and took a 2 hour Airboat tour throughout the Bayou of Louisiana.  As we parked the car some guy came up to us and told us to get our tickets and grab some beer in the county store....very interesting because he had quite the resemblance to Quasimodo, but what can you expect when you get down to the Bayou. Our tour guide was a 17 year old kid with no fear for losing his fingers.  It only took about 5 minutes to find our first gator.  We come around this bend and sure enough there is a 10ft. alligator just posting up on the side of the swamp.  Our tour guide decides that it would be a good idea to bring it over with marshmallows.  Sure enough this monster rolls up to the boat and then the guide decides to pull it up by its jaw and give it a kiss. Pretty scary but awesome at the same time.  We then made our way through the swamps seeing all kinds of wildlife.  Our guide even let us hold an alligator.  It's a little scary that a creature that small can grow into a killing machine.  Our guide got even more brave when he pulled a 4 ft. alligator right out of the water.  He flipped it over to "put it to sleep", but instead it decided to snap up and almost take his jewels with him. Our guide promptly threw the gator off the boat and back into the swamp. As we headed back in we saw a coyote on the side of the swamp chowing down on dinner (rats on steroids)....a nice end to a great tour. We headed back after that and went in town to the French Quarter. We stayed at the St. Marie Hotel right off of Bourbon St.  We spent the night strolling around town and enjoying the sites.  We got to see Criss Angel who was filming his show Mindfreak. We then went to Cafe Dumond to enjoy some dessert and then strolled by Jackson square where there is the oldest church in America.  After that we tried to go to Pat O'Brien's, but the line was too long to get in so we just walked around Bourbon St. We called it a night after that and enjoyed a night cap glass of wine at the hotel.  The next morning we woke up and went to Saint Charles St.  There we found the coolest cemetery we have ever been to.  Since New Orleans is so close to sea level all the cemeteries are above ground.  Kara took some great pictures of all the "tombs". We even found someone there that was born in the 1700's! After an exciting morning we headed back to beating the pavement.  Jill says its 7 hours to Austin so thats what we are doing.  We stopped off in Houston to have a couple app's and beers to hold us over till we get to Austin.  So we have made it to Texas! The only problem with this state is that it is 1,000 miles wide, and we have to go from tip to tip.  Hope that everyone is doing well and we would love some feedback on the blog, mainly cause we don't even know if you all like what we are writing (except for Kellie, we know she likes it)....haha.

Glad to hear you guys are having fun and doing well.

Ed and I used to go to N O every year for the Jazz Fest. Never had any desire for Mardi Grai (sp?)

We too did the alligator swamp tour, but our toothless guide used raw chicken instead of marshmellows....to lure the gators.

My favoite doll store is just off Bourbon.

Enjoying checking in every now and then........ show all

Hey, I tried posting before but I think it dissapeared. Your blog is my escape from studying for finals. So thanks.

Where are the pictures of the crazy tour guide? Did he stick his head in the gator's mouth like Joe Dirt?

Oh my gosh... I love the pictures... Especially the one of the oldest church. It looks like a postcard. Did you see any neighborhoods that were impacted by Katrina? I told Phyllis that you were in her old stompin' grounds. Her dad lives in Slidell. Anyway, keep the pictures and blogs a comin'! What great memories you are making! What's goin' on here, you ask? Just work and some more work. ... show all
