Good morning everyone.
Julie, Joey, and I are on Day 6 of our 9-day journey
East. It has been a blast.
It started with a 5-hour delay at the airport in
Aīdam but we finally made it to cold and icy
Bratislava Slovakia.
The next morning we took the train 1 hour west to
Vienna where we spent 3 full days. We walked all
over town taking in the sites, but specifically, we
toured the Opera House, saw the Vienna Boys Choir
perform, toured St. Stephenīs Cathedral (and visited
its catacombs), did a Jewish walking tour, and had
lots and lots of pastries at many of Viennaīs finest
cafes!
We were expecting to leave Vienna early Tues. morning
and spending 2 days driving around the Slovakian
countryside enroute to Budapest. But, the guy we
were renting the car from never showed up. So on to
Plan B. We went to the train station and took the
train to Budapest, unfortunately skipping the
Slovakian countryside altogether. The problem was
the next train was not for 4 hours. So we dropped
our luggage in a locker and went to the Music House
interactive museum. It was cool.
We finally made it to Budapest Tue. in time for an
awesome kosher dinner! Yesterday was our first full
day in Bīpest. We spend 4 hours walking around
Castle Hill and the amazing St. Matthias Church. We
then cut our visit to Castle Hill short and spent the
afternoon at one of Bīpestīs baths, the Gellert. It
was soooo relaxing.
Today we are off to Statue Park to see all the Commie
statues that were removed from town when the Iron
Curtain fell. And tonight we are going to the Opera.
Tomorrow we have a Jewish walking tour and will fill
our day with a visit to Parliament, the Great Market
Hall (farmerīs market), and dinner at the swanky
Gundel.
On our last day, we plan on renting a car and driving
along the Danube to a supposedly beautiful area
called the Danube Bend, with lots of small Hungarian
villages.
We then head back to Aīdam and Joey spends a week
with us there.
Hope all is well with everyone!
