So we've officially landed in Auckland, New Zealand and we were lucky enough to have a friend of mine, Chanelle Breeze, to pick us up. We landed first thing in the morning so right away we had a full day to spend. Chanelle made some breakie at her place and then we got to it. We first stopped at one of the local beaches and I got my feet wet in the ocean. I wish that the sheep river in Okotoks was a sandy beach full of shells. Anyways, we hopped back in the car - driving on the wrong side of the road!! - and we went luging. We figured it would be ice and winter jackets but they luge a little different over here. It's kinda like a go kart but motorized, and you just ride it down a hill. It was pretty awesome and i must say that we look pretty sweet as in our helmets and hair nets! Then we went to the hot pools in Waiwera. They had some pretty wicked water slides and it was really nice to just sit and relax all afternoon in the different hot pools.
We spent the next few days checking out some of the local beaches and enjoying some local wine. On Friday afternoon Amanda and I decided that we would return the Breeze's hospitality and cook them a Canadian dinner! So after some grocery shopping and drinking by the pool, we got to it and ended up making poutine and tacos. I know...not very Canadian. It was hard to find something to cook!! And they don't have perogies! Shocking and sad...
After a fab meal, enjoyed by ALL, Chanelle, her bro Todd and some of the boys joined for our first night out in NZ. We started off at the a place called the Stampede...those copycats. They even had a poster of our Calgary stampede! Amanda was pretty choked about the American flag hanging above the bar though. It ended up being a nit of a dud night at the Stampede so we caught a cab and went to an Irish pub called Finn McCools. We had a really awesome time and slept well that night. The rest of the weekend it was rainy and windy so we took it pretty easy and watched some movies and did facials. Chanelle really needs a sister! We booked a flight down to the South Island for Sunday so we packed our things and got ready to go.
Ciao for now!
