Well we made it back to the coast! And even better, warm tropical coast at that!! SWEET!
We left Mackay on Tuesday and headed straight to Airlie Beach! It was only a 100 km drive which was nice as we got here early and enjoyed the sun for a bit. We have been looking forward to the Whitsundays since our friends, Lucy and Jorge we met in Laos, told us about their adventures diving and snorkling here! Airlie Beach itself is more like a backpacker mecca, filled with tourist infos, travel agencies, pubs, restaurants, hostels, bathing suit stores etc. a little too comercial, BUT it is still very pretty looking out at the bright blue ocean and seeing the boats bouncing in the breeze. There is a really nice palm tree-lined park that looks out to the beach, on the esplanade. That's where we spent our day yesterday! From 11am to about 5pm yesterday we sat on the grass and then the beach, when the sun came out, reading, snoozing and relaxing in the sun.
The main reason we came here is to dive or snorkel. So...We are going on a boat for 3 days and 3 nights diving, snorkling and sailing out to the outer Great Barrier Reef and the Whitsunday islands, as well as the famous Whitehaven Beach! So excited!! We booked our trip on a sailing catermaran, and we are going to live it up! We need to go shopping for some yachting wear, maybe some white and blue striped shirts and blue and white slip on shoes with anchors on them! heh heh. Did I mention we will totally be in style! Hippy hip! We leave on Saturday evening, so until then we are starting our base tans, and chilling out at the caravan park and the beach. Unfortunatley I have finished another book, so I am going to have to get to a book exchange ASAP.
With booking our trip we got 4 hours of free internet access but haven't as of yet used it. So as soon as we get our butts to the cafe we will post these and catch everyone up. We have realized that some of you haven't received all of the blogs we have put on here. If you are getting the notifications and just clicking on the link, you will only see the blogs we send with the notices. So when you have a chance, go onto the site and check out more of the blogs and pictures incase you have missed some!! We don't usually send a notice every single blog as we don't want to bombard your inbox with notices.
We'll write more soon!!!
