Hello from Bedford Weir Campground, a beautiful spot and best of all free! And it has hot showers and toilets!!! It is 25 km North of Blackwater and next to Bedford Weir, that is currently over flowing, but don't worry we are on the high side of the dam. We got a few pictures, appearently it is not that common for it is overflow, but up stream they are pumping out a coal mine that flooded earlier this year. They figure it should be pumped out by late August!
As a testiment to the nice Australian people, we were just getting ready for dinner when the caretakers of this campground walked over and ask if we had ever had Red Claw before? Thank goodness we had seen a picture of the fresh water crayfish before and didn't simply say, "huh"
Last night we stayed at Fairbairn Dam on Lake Maraboon, and it was a wonderful caravan site. We thought we had a crappy spot, right next the the camp kitchen, but since everyone has their own kitchens, it was generally deserted unless the footy game was on, but quiet time was at 9:30, so not a problem at all. This morning we were going to stay in Sapphire and go fossicking (panning for sapphires), we were actually both pretty excited about it, but in the end, the towns of Sapphire and Rubyvale were very small and the touristy stuff was VERY touristy.(seemed like just a big money grab) We went to a gallery and one gem was $95,000!!!!!! And not really that much security around......instead of staying the night we came here and not regretful at all.
We are sitting in the van and wondering how cold it is going to get tonight, and thinking about getting a duvet.(it's quite chilly right now) Neither of us thought it was going to get this cold in Australia
There is a train going by in the distance, we read that some of the coal trains around here are 2km long. Blackwater and this region of Australia is the coal capital. Time to read for a while and off to bed. (the train outside is still going by and it has been 20 minutes!)

Driving at sunset
. The nicest older lady came back with 8 large BBQ'd crayfish tails in sweet chilli sauce and boy were they tasty, sure beat the heck out of our beans and weiners! (They even gave us a full bag of raw peeled Red Claw meat and some cooked meat to take with us! Wow! It totally tasted like prawns but more dense like lobster. Yummy!!!)Last night we stayed at Fairbairn Dam on Lake Maraboon, and it was a wonderful caravan site. Lake Maraboon
! Kylie is reading some tabloid magazine she found in the shower area (just checking up on the newest gossip and need to be kept in the loop!!) and I just finished reading the classifieds (lots of jobs in Australia). We are going to read a bit tonight and tomorrow it is off to the Blackdown Tablelands (sounds like a country music group!) National Park for some sight seeing and then to Rockhampton and then back to the coast, we are both very happy we took this detour inland. (but looking dorward to the beaches again!!)There is a train going by in the distance, we read that some of the coal trains around here are 2km long. Cricket!!
Hi there Aussie travellers. what fun to read all the latest travels of KandK. I loved the daily timeline you sent. Didn't find one yet for the Aussie Zoo, though. Guess it hasn't happened yet...or what??
Any names for your van yet? It thought Cricket (a take on Crickie and Caravan and they play cricket in Australia, don't they? Anyway, that's my suggestion.
Sounds like you are getting immersed into camping life. People sound friendly...even if they're grey-hairs. Do you get lots of info on where to go, what to see from people??
Love to both of you.
