Town of 1770
Captain Cook Holiday Park
Well here we are again, another caravan park and another beautiful beach! The town is named after the year the Captain Cook set foot on Australia for the second time, well back in 1770. We arrived at 2:30 and soon discovered that the caravan park we wanted to stay at was booked solid, guess it is a long weekend here, Monday is a holiday, not sure which one? (Queen's birthday, even though it's not her birthday, they just celebrate it now?!?!?!) Not to worry, up the road was this caravan park and we are settled in. Went for a walk down to the beach, 1km(downhill the whole way there...you know what that means for coming back!!!!) and now we are going to cook up some scallops we bought at a road side stand! ($20 for 750 grams) We were definitely hoping we could start buying seafood this way! Very nice! (theyalso were selling 'green bananas'...thought that was weird as it was a seafood stand, so I asked. Dumb tourist...they are raw prawns. I like it. I think we are gonna call em green bananas from now on!)
A little sprinkle of rain but other then that, it is a little muggy and going to be a nice night.( I am writing this a few hours after Keir wrote his, and now it is totally pouring!!!! Raining soooo hard!!!) Will take advantage of the shower facility later on and going to hit the road again tomorrow. If we were staying closer to the water we would stay here another night, but instead we are going to go to drive down to the beach and stay there during the day(to soak up some hopeful rays...but looking a bit dark right now for it) and a rest stop tomorrow night on the way to Carnarvan Gorge. A big loop, and back to Rockhampton, (along the tropic of Capricorn!!! How cool is that!) should be cool! A little inland exploration.
Oh and our rum is going faster then we thought....opps :) (yummy rum coffee liquer with cream)
