Life on paradise island was just that - paradise. White sand, crystal clear blue water and nobody about unless they were there to serve you!
After a hearty breakfast overlooking the sea Kirst went off for a massage to relax more if that was possible. I decided to go on a hike around the island as there were some lovely romantic spots around the island...
We had plans to snorkel today and that's exactly what we did once Kirst had descended from massage heaven.
The best spot to snorkel is off of the Sand Bar. The Sand Bar is a bar of pure white sand that sticks out from the island and gently falls below the surface of the sea which leisurely laps up and down the shore. Totally deserted.
Snorkel jackets and fins on, masks and snorkels at the ready we turned to the sea ready to explore the Sumilon coral and marine wildlife...
Except I had other plans for this moment and now out of all the other millions of moments that I had dreamed about, planned and rehearsed over the years I knew instinctively this was 'the place and the moment'!
Rehearsals and plans are amazing things and always work effortlessly in theory. In practise: I actually have trouble recalling what I said as I was dead nervous. Apart from Kirst initially thinking I was asking to do something else on a beautiful deserted beach (for some reason I said lets do it lets do it), she turned around and saw me on one knee and realised. I remember asking for Kirst's hand in marriage and presenting her with the 'rock' (eventually).
I think I asked about 3 times before realising that I actually hadn't presented K with the ring - I then presented K with the ring and she replied 'Yes'.
Happiest day of our lives and we wrote our names in the sand.
Woohooooo! That was the most amazing unforgettable snorkelling trip we've ever had!
Coming face-to-face with one of the most venomous sea snakes in the world was the next thing Kirst decided to do! The thing is jet black with bright yellow markings and can kill thousands with one drop of venom - apparently 1000's of times stronger than a cobra's venom!
Adrenaline pumping and a sharp exit from the water we returned back to our villa to drop off our snorkelling gear. I'd had Champagne on ice and we took it back to toast us and the beautiful sunset on the sand bar - us, sunset, champagne perfect.
Engagement dinner was perfect and we were waited on hand and foot and more Champagne too!
A day we'll always remember
(Oh almost forgot - the spider)
The spider on our bedroom wall - I'm not usually too squeamish but this got me and K arachnophobe extraordinaire- no chance
Trying to be the knight in shining armour I grabbed a glass and approached. Not good - the thing moved like lightning and it really was the size of a small saucepan, the glass wasn't going to cover it!
Had to resort to room service. To be fair it gave a good fight against the broom and it took more than a few attempts to put it out of its misery - they're big out here and mean business!!!!
Who cares we're engaged!!!!!!!'
