Days 190 - 191 - Melbourne - Sydney
After an embarrassing flight on Virgin Blue (embarrassing because I'm currently reading the Richard Branson autobiography)) we've arrived in what is supposedly the world's most easy-to-live-in city. With an agonising five day wait until my mum comes out for a holiday, we don't want to do too now (trying to keep it special for all of us at the same time - cheesy, I know). Although we've got friends to meet up with we opted to occupy both our first full day in Sydney and the last before my mum arrives impproving our diving by doing our Advanced Open Water course.
Our first two dives in the comparatively freezing waters of the harbour and Botany Bay were the compulsory ones - the deep dive and the underwater navigation. Neither went that well with not a lot to see in the way of marine life, a few problems and too many other divers but we got through unscathed. Diving for fun is one of my favourite things in the world but diving when you don't feel comfortable or when something goes wrong is a completely different proposition. My fear is that we've shot our load somewhat learning to dive in and around the Great Barrier Reef and that everywhere else will disappoint. On th positive side though, we're off to Vanuatu in a couple of weeks where the diving is supposed to be superb and providing we complete our course we should be able to do some spectacular dives.
