Day 186 - 187 - Melbourne
Selling a car is infinitely more stressful than I imagined and I'm feeling slightly embarrassed that something so trivial has had such a profound effect on my mood. It's been a case of literally sitting and waiting for the phone to ring. Although we've managed a bit of shopping and to get a pathetic but concrete offer on the car from a garage, for two full days that's not much of an accomplishment.
Our first lead can allegedly get the money by Friday but the amount of faffing around so far tends to suggest otherwise. Just as we had committed ourselves to taking Roland to the garage if this money didn't materialise, a second potential buyer telephoned. Unfortunately the timing is not great as tomorrow we're booked on to an all-day trip and on Saturday (day after tomorrow) we fly to Sydney. Still, he knows the situation, seemed initially positive about the car and I'm more than happy to put our eggs into as many baskets as possible. Booking tomorrow's trip and the flights has at least given us something to look forward to but I'll feel much better but once Roland is gone.
Day 188 - Melbourne
At the comparatively minor expense of our planned day trip, we've finally unloaded the burden of Roland onto some poor unsuspecting Norwegian. For a bloody profit as well! Fool! It seems to good to be true and while our spirits immediately lifted we couldn't help thinking something was destined to go wrong. With the albatross gone and our wallets filled, we indulged in some serious shopping without feeling guilty about purchasing. It has been hell selling the car but on reflection he's done us proud. I didn't shed a tear but it was a little sad to say goodbye to the vehicle that has taken us the 6,000+ kms we've travelled since the initial hiccup without further problem and netted us a gain of $400. I love Norwegians!
