Four months spent travelling through eight of Asia's numerous countries and we've stayed in 41 different hotels and I've read 47 books. We've met plenty of people I'd like to call friends (locals and Westerners) and vey few whose company I couldn't tolerate. There have been low points (Delhi, the journey from Luang Prabang to Chiang Mai, shitting myself in Cambodia etc) but I wouldn't have appreciated the better things without these. I've lost my temper on a couple of occasions but much more frequently I've been surprised by people's genuinely friendly and helpful nature. I've been untrustful countless times and only been proven correct in my assessment the once. I've caught myself taking things for granted a few times and had to pinch myself to reming me that I won't be walking past ornate temples and waterfalls every day forever. I've purchased some bargain mementos and taken god knows how many photographs which I also hope will serve as an aid for reminiscence of what has undoubtedly been the most educating and amazing (a true traveller word) time of my life thus far.
After mentioning some of the lowlights (one of which I should probably have kept quiet) some of the highlights are listed below in chronological order:
1. Keralan backwaters 2. Goan beach life 3. Lao scenery 4. Caving and tubing in Vang Vieng 5. Finding the waterfall and rope swing in Luang Prabang 6. Temples of Angkor Wat 7. Firing an AK-47 on automatic in Phnom Penh (maybe I'm a sick puppy at heart) 8. Vietnamese war history 9. Cheese sandwiches in Melaka (I'm a man of simple tastes) 10.Kuala Lumpur skyline (the Petronas Towers) 11.Orang-utans in Bukit Lawang 12.Climbing Gunung Sibayak in Berastagi - well, more the getting to the top, the actual walking was bloody hard work
I've deliberately excluded anything that's relied solely on the people I've done or seen these things with but without exception enjoyment of all of these has been heightened by the various individuals of different nationalities with whom I've shared these experiences. Thank you!
