Our last day in India was always going to be an anti-climax and it did disappoint despite our best efforts. The highlight was supposed to be England's World Cup Cricket match with India but predictably, England was shit! We started watching it with about 20 waiters in a restaurant but concluded our viewing (I should say my viewing, Kirsty was snoring by the end) alone in our hotel room. The only distraction was the screaming Indian men in the room next door who shouted and banged on the walls whenever another England wicket fell. Despite the expense and some of the hassle, Mumbai has been surprisingly enjoyable given the fact we hadn't really warmed to any Indian cities previously. However, our time in India is now over and we're off to South East Asia.
India has been a perfect first port of call - being a test but yet full of friendly people. We've learned a lot, experienced a great deal and met some amazing people. I was never as 'culture-shocked' as people told me I'd be but it's not difficult to see why India wouldn't be to everyone's tastes. Trying to summarise India into 3 adjectives (as I'd originally planned to do) is an impossibility but I'd probably be better off just doing it in one - diverse. Who would I recommend it to? Everyone - although a lot of people would hate me if they followed this advice. India had always been Kirsty's desire more than mine but I've grown to love what little I've seen of it and it's left me wanting to see more. I also know I'm going to miss it (particularly the food and the people)!
