It was Sunday, the second day in Melaka. The plan today was to explore the city a bit more and perhaps find some food that Melaka is famous for (Baba Nyonya food). The day started pretty late. It was almost lunch time, so first things first; I need to find Baba Nyonya food. It was easy to find a Baba Nyonya restaurant, the hardest part was to find a good one. After walking a while, I went into what looked like a very decent place; unfortunately the food was just so-so. After lunch, I walked to all the historical sites like the A Famosa, the red Dutch clock tower, Stadhuy’s church and the ruins of some old church. These were fascinating stuff but I’m not a big history fan. Then I went to the famous Jonker Street where all the little shops selling foods, souvenirs and lots of other things. There were a lot of old-looking temples and mosques around here too. The last spot before I left for KL was the St John’s Hill. They have cannons at the old fort. This is where the Dutch built their fort to fend off their rivals when they ruled this place.
Melaka was very nice, especially to those who love history and old buildings. You can definitely spend one or two nights here and that would be more than enough. After all it is very near to KL.
