After about 10 minutes boat ride down Sungai Tembeling, we reached our starting point. We asked the boat guy to pick us up at the same spot after 3 hours. Not far from where we started, we found a semi-permanent Orang Asli village. They are the nomadic Batek tribe. They have small features, dark complexion and curly hair. When we arrived, only women and children were there. The men were probably out hunting. The women just finished their morning bath at the river when I asked the way to the cave. I tried to be as polite as possible. They looked at me like I was a clown or something. I thought they did not understand me. Finally one of them point to the direction of the cave and while we were walking away, I could still hear them giggling at us.
After about an hour, we reached Gua Telinga. When I saw it, I thought there's no way I'm going in! It looked rather scary and I'm not that fond of wet, dark, slimy small space with lots of bats (and their droppings) and other creepy crawlies. We were greeted by a sign saying 'your safety is your own responsibilities'. Great!
After getting over the initial fear and hesitation we went into the cave anyway. It was pretty cool. Took some pics really quickly. Lots of bats hanging upside down, and swooshing by as we were clicking our cameras away. When we got out, there were a couple of tourists from Canada. They didn't want to go in so we showed them our pics. I felt so brave.
We continued our trek for another 30 minutes to Bumbun Blau. We just wanted to see how a bumbun looked like so we have an idea because we're gonna spend a night at a bumbun later. Then we went back to where we started, and stop by the village to take some pics. We were very discreet about it. While waiting for the boat, we checked for leeches. Of course we found a couple of these little suckers sucking away our blood. Gave them some salt and off they go!
Our boat picked us up at 1:30pm. we had lunch at Kuala Tahan then spent the rest of the afternoon swimming at Sungai tembeling in front of our chalet. It was a very hot day but perfect to be in the cool water.
