Singapore was a bit of a rest stop for us. We had both visited Singapore recently and there wasn´t too much we wanted to see or do. It was good to stay put in one place for 10 days. It was also nice to be in warm, tropical like weather - I won´t complain about the heat and humidity this time.
We took a few pictures of local scenes - A Singapore housing complex typically has within walking distance a fresh food market, schools, medical clinic, food court, community centre, playground, meeting spaces and now they have recently added an exercise pad.
Time was spent with family, reading, relaxing, eating local food, getting our India visa and buying some last minute stuff.
We also hopped on a bum boat to Ubin Island one day
I (Rajiv) went for an 18km walk one evening as I accompanied my brother-in-law who is training for a 50km walk in December. He and his friends set out to walk 40km that night, while I decided to stop after 3 hours. Since I´m not into running I think this is an activity I would like to take up on our return to Ottawa.
The last few nights in Singapore were spent meeting up with one of the Doctors I have worked with at CHEO. Paul was supposed to head through Bangkok on his way to Bhutan to volunteer his skills there for the month of December, but due to political troubles the airport there is closed so he had to wait here for alternate flights.

. This is an island just off Singapore which has retained some of the old way of life. We rented bikes and biked to Chek Jawa - a unique coastal haven in this part of the country, comprising 6 major habitats; coastal forest, mangrove, sandy beach, lagoon, rubble strewn, coral flat and a tiny island - eco systems that are no longer common in Singapore. We saw wild monkeys and unique birds as we walked through protected mangrove forests.
