This blog will mostly been written in the third person. Kalpesh was very tired when he boarded the train but got upgraded to business class; sweet. Suspect customs wanted to keep a closer eye on Kalpesh. Kalpesh passed customs with flying colours, they started to talk Punjabi to Kalpesh. Kalpesh nodded. To be fair the 3 times Kalpesh has been to the states Kalpesh has never had an issue; Denmark and Turkey take note. Only 9 hour train journey, meh this is nothing. Kalpesh once in Portland took a wrong turning, uh oh ended up somewhere dodgy but Kalpesh worked out right direction and eventually found hostel. Nice to get lost sometimes means you have to find right path again. Kalpesh's bag ripped on broken locker, Kalpesh not happy Kalpesh smash, bash, grrrrr but wait Kalpesh is a Wanza. Tailoring in blood so Kalpesh gets needle and thread and patch problem right up. (There are several castes in India and they are based on type of jobs. My caste is Wanza who are Tailors). Kalpesh did some washing next before exploring streets near by. They had Christmas lights on the trees so oddly felt like Christmas, these Portlanders. Kalpesh was hungry so went sports bar, and heard the word awesome said 30 times in 10 seconds. Kalpesh was in the states for sure. Kalpesh forgot how big portions are in states ordered too much food, was not hungry after. Kalpesh felt sleepy and had good night sleep despite sharing with 15 other people.

Lay in for Kalpesh before heading out in the 25C sun, and making a beeline for the waterfront. There was a size able market on and mainly handcraft so Kalpesh looked around all the stalls. Then Kalpesh walked up the waterfront which had a long grass area running alongside it. Then Kalpesh weaved in and out the streets and found a food market, shops, fountains and statues. Kalpesh ended up again at the first market relaxing and listening too a girl playing a harp, various singers including hillbillies singing I wanna be like you from the Jungle Book. Perfecto. Was a great relaxing day. Kalpesh headed back to hostel where they made food for hostelers, yum spaghetti. Kalpesh and couple of people decided to go out, but where to. Feel the rhythm, feel the rhyme, get up and go, its ice skating time. Kalpesh not been on skates for 20 odd years, Kalpesh fell over and held the edge a lot. Kalpesh Indian heritage no like ice. However fun was had by all. Exhausted Kalpesh was from the skating, so headed back to hostel.Another lay in for Kalpesh before heading out in the 27C sun, only half day before train to next place so Kalpesh went to book store to get funnily enough a book. Kalpesh went to biggest book store Kalpesh ever been too and Kalpesh brought The Hunger Games. Kalpesh went waterfront and Kalpesh read while getting tan, before moving to more tranquil area in the city (a small park in the city). Kalpesh headed back to hostel to pick up bags and next part of the states. Kalpesh had nice relaxing time in Portland, very laid back and has no sales tax. Kalpesh like.
