The flight to Saipan was both the shortest and most beautiful I had been on. Lush, green islands decorated the deep blue ocean, and the friendly man sitting across from Paige and me kept us entertained with stories of the islands.
My memories of Saipan mesh much more appropriately with my perception of the tropics than do my recollections of Guam. Our friends Joe and Joan greeted us at the small airport and whisked us away to their beautiful home. Paige and I were fascinated by the openess of it, the geckos scampering across the walls in the falling light, and the flat roof built to be used as just another room in the house.
