So today went *really* quick, our first day in Houston. Well, technically we didn't go into the city itself but we had a job to do, and the area around us had all we needed :)
We kicked the day off at 9:30am which was quite hard after the lack of sleep we had, but we need to sleep at the right time or we'll never shake the jet lag. We headed down the street where we crossed IHOP, the perfect place for breakfast in my opinion. We had a lovely lady serve us and she was very accommodating, even splitting our meal between 2 plates (my dad and I have had stomach surgery and we cannot eat a full serving in Australia, let-alone USA!). After breakfast Z had a haircut from across the road and now looks like a teenager again (instead of an old Jewish lady! Haha!).
From this time until about 5pm we had the battle that none of us expected. My dad and brother have an iPhone 3GS and I have an iPhone 4, which means they need regular SIMs and I need a micro SIM. For those who are not in the loop, a mico SIM is simply a regular SIM without so much plastic around the outside. After hunting around we finally found out that AT&T have an exclusivity contract with Apple and are the only carrier to sell Apple products. Mind blowing! Not only is it amazing that they are the only ones to sell Apple iPhones, but that no other carriers bother to stock micro SIMs, even though some customers may buy an iPhone 4 from Apple themselves and then provide a micro SIM with a contract with their own company, but no! They recommended that I try and find a SIM cutter, which eventually didn't happen.
After returning to AT&T (which is a job in itself as we were driving at the traffic drive on the right side, not the left), we were told that pre-paid accounts cannot get data (which is what I live on!). Without data their plans are less than useless to me, it's how I communicate through not only social websites, but also VoIP to call people back home for just a little data instead of 25c per min. We were told about a term less contract and half way through signing up with that (for an absolute shit deal, I must add), they notified me I needed a social security number or a $500 deposit. I had one word for them. Cya.
So now we have T-Mobile at our place on better plans for what AT&T offered, plus better customer service. However our iPhone 3GS' seem to be locked with Telstra, who told us they'll be unlocked in 5 hours. Only time will tell!
Before dinner I jumped online on the hotel's wireless internet and checked out Las Vegas accommodation which we'll have to book tomorrow. While checking out MGM I found that David Copperfield is performing at the moment, and his last night is the same night that we fly in. If we time it well, we'll make his last show, which I'm VERY much so looking forward to (those who know me understand I like magic quite a lot).
We headed out to Outback with grandpa tonight, it's a steakhouse in USA which is absolutely unbelievable, and they delivered on that quality again tonight. Our steak was absolutely delicious and tender, you didn't need a knife but rather 2 forks; just stick a fork in the middle and pull the meat off with the other. Videos to come!
Thanks for reading guys! I seem to have an increase in followers, I hope you're all enjoying my entries :) I'll try and take a little more time out of my day to write these up, dress it up and such. Our dinners in Houston will always go quite late as it's our main time with grandpa.
Update: One of the iPhones kicked in and started working. I have no idea why anybody would want my number, but if I trust you then you'll know how to contact me for it =)
