Hey guys,

The connecting flight to Houston was quite fun! It was reasonably short, about 2.5 hours or so, but the people I chatted with made the time fly faster than ever. I spoke to a nice Mexican American lady who funnily enough worked with mainframes for the FAA in America and a young American girl who just finished studying in Australia and is applying for citizenship through de facto status. We had a fun chat about Australia, Thanksgiving (the last Thursday of Novemeber in America, which makes it 3 days from now) and even Halloween.

After landing we hired a car through Thrifty that dad had booked earlier and drove it to our hotel just 15 minutes away. We quickly checked in, showered and took off to meet grandpa at his place just 2 minutes down the road (and I managed to squeeze in some Facebook, I'm that good :P). We had a nice dinner at an Italian place down the road from grandpa's place (he's been there before and they know him well), where we had some delicious pasta and salmon.

So far I've not been able to interact with many Americans past the basic introductions (apart from the airplane), I look forward to chatting to some more people tomorrow and gaining an idea of what's popular to do around here. Another interesting thing I found is that so far the people I've talked to are not used to the way I deliver jokes with a straight face, but rather will react to jokes only if my face shows I'm joking or it's brutally honest. It took me a while to work out after bombing out with 4 or 5 jokes in a row! How interesting...

Apologies for not making this update extra spicy, but I'm working on no energy at the moment and I know that if I don't do this blog entry tonight, it'll never get done, so best to do it with no zazz than to not do it at all! :P
