We arrived late last night to Puno, a small city on Lake Titicaca. Our hotel owners are friendly, but a bit overbearing -- we booked a tour to Uros, a even smaller town (2000 people) -- Now the strange thing about about Uros is that it is a city constructed of reeds that grow in the lake -- the houses, the barns, the restaraunts, and kitchens -- also the land that the buildings are built upon are actually made with the same reeds -- like very thick rafts -- (they last about 25 years) and as the undersides biodegrade -- more reeds are piled atop. These people have been living this way for a very long time -- pre inca -- infact they developed these rafts/island/homes to protect themselves from the attacking tribes in the region -- now -- they only have to protect themselves from tourists.
Tomorrow, we are heading to Copacabana -- then La Paz -- then the world.
I hope all is well -- we will be home soon
hugs.

Great hearing from you!!!
So good to know that you are well (except for those bus rides, too bad Kali!) Love hearing about all the sights- you are truly having an experience of a lifetime! We saw snow for the first time last Sunday driving home from Standish...didn't last but a sign of things to come. Maybe there'll be some here to greet you on your return! Visiting Glens Falls this weekend. Nana's birthday is on Sunday and we're back on Monday. That'll be a good time to start preparing for Christmas! Enjoy the rest of your trip. Take care and see you in two weeks! Love Mom
