We were back on a layman´s bus... full of smelly people, cramming god knows what into god knows where and then getting on a bus... great.... the bus ride was supposed to be 3 hrs... it took much longer.
Peru has always seemed a secure country. We´ve had random traffic stops, a very visible police presence, and quite a few security check points. It took 5 hrs to go 230k. I was crabby. Eventually, the bus pushed past a large crowd, and we got off -- we could go no further, we were told. We´d need to take a cab the last 5k. Again, the police presence was huge, people lined the streets.... what the hell is going on? We tried to take a cab. We were told no. No.... are these the same people who hound you as soon as you step off a bus? what is going on.... Esposia de Bush...... QUE??????
We waited.
Eventually, a troop carrier drove by -- followed by police escorts and three black SUV´s - then, we got a taxi
About 10 months ago maybe... there was a terrible earthquake in Pisco. It destroyed most of the town. Now, much of south america has always looked destroyed, but this was rediculous. Buildings in our trusty lonely planet guide are just gone. Its crazy.
So we booked a tour to Parque de Paracas -- in english it translates into the poor man´s galapogos. That will be tomorrow.
With only 3weeks or so left we are really on the move... we´ve made up a lot of ground -- but there still so much to see...
we love everyone.... and hope all is well. Sending hugs and kisses..
lots of love, Kali and Bryce
