If heaven were a bus, it would be called Ittsa. We had a 9 hour bus ride from Trujillo to Lima -- and we rode in the lap of luxury... for less than 50 dollars, we rode on a doubledecker with fully reclining leather seats. Air conditioning, a meal, two snacks, lots of drinks, and three movies... we even checked our bags and went through security just like an airline... crazy. 9 hours is still too long to be on a bus.

When we arrived we took a taxi -- 8 million people strong is not the time to start wandering around looking for our hostel at 10pm. We were pretty irritated that the taxi wouldn´t bring us all the way to our hostel -- little did we know what the next morning would entail.

Our hostel was the most rediculous musuem esq. place ever. It had huge paintings, with golden frames -- large statues of David and others.... plants, skulls, kittens, two large land tortoises -- wow... it was a long day laying on a bus, so we went to bed.

I got up about 9 to go find money -- Kali stayed in bed to read. As I was wandering back, I found riot police, barricades, personal carriers, and an army - securing this square -- I stayed for while, trying to figure out what was going on. Eventually, I went and got Kali and dragged her back with me -- she was almost finished with her book, and had no idea what I was talking about. We watched for a while as marching bands played, riot police set more barriers, and the army checked their cell phones. Two stray dogs wandered amongst the fray. An iron gate opened and a Kennedy convertable came out -- empty. I was worried. Who would need this type of security and ride in a convertable? Eventually a marching band played a song.. which sounded strangely like the ´follow the yellow brick road` Mounted horses started down the street -- then the South Korean president -- more horses. .... cannons started firing.... and marching bands..... it was mayhem. We had had enough... we checked out of our hostel and headed to Pisco.

Little did we know... another certain president would be in Lima that day and his wife would be causing us trouble ... but that is another story for another time
