Got up this morning in the lush, cool, rainy, eclectic town of Woodstock, Vermont.  Stayed in a tiny, stinky, $49.00 room run by an elderly British couple.  They tried to sell the motel to me instead of payment for the night.  My entire body was sore and I needed the rest.

As I was gathering my things I felt a twinge of pain shoot through my right groin. I dismissed it as nothing.  I had a big day ahead.  I would head toward Sault Saint Marie, Ontario today.  Maybe even cross the border.

The river running through Woodstock, VT was only a few feet deep and had boulders diverting the current throughout.  I figured I would find better kayaking ahead.  I left Woodstock in search of the Canadian border.

I called my bank and made sure they cleared my cards for use in Canada. I made the mistake of not calling my bank when in Canada last and It rendered my cards useless for the weekend.  Fortunately I carried enough cash to make it through.

I noticed two missed calls from my daughter, Kaley, on my I Phone 4.  A feeling of impending doom enveloped me.  She hasn't left a message just to say hi in a long time and I doubted she was doing it now.  I called her back and left a message.  She got back to me and I could tell my initial feeling of impending doom was correct.

She had to go to court today about the fight we got into several months ago.

I had told her she couldn't go out and she was gonna do it anyway.  Since I am the custodial parent and had enough disrespect from her lately, I made a stand.  Kaley was gonna go against me and do as she liked. It turned into a big deal and her talking to all the crazy women in our lives. It turned into one of the embittered man haters calling the police and DCF (The Child Police) on me.

It was most likely one of my whacked out sisters, but it could have been one of many

This strategy by the anonymous caller backfired.  When everything was explained, Kaley was the one in trouble.  At 16 you can't legally go against your dad and lay hands on him, then run away.

She ignored the order to come in and write a statement, thus the court hearing. Now I had to save her from going to jail.  She is my baby and I love her more than anything, but she does need to learn a few lessons.  Isn't that what dads are for?

Kaley started telling me that I had to immediately write a lette,r and send it, and say this, and do that and on and on it went as if this was my emergency.  I told her not to tell me what to say.  I would handle it.

Then a strange voice got on the phone.  It was Kaley's boyfriends, mother.  That's right. She was an attorney, and she had enough of me not listening to Kaley.  She was now gonna set me straight.  She is divorced with 4 kids and very authoritative and an obvious man hater.  Her ex won't speak to her, for obvious reasons.  She started laying down the law to me and demanding that I do this and that and do it now.  I bit my lip, for my daughter's sake, and told her to give the phone to Kaley.  She did and I told Kaley that that women was a disrespectful bitch.

Kaley called me an asshole and told me to fuck off, then hung up.

Kaley's mom was there as well, they were all listening to our conversations, and immediately sent me a text saying they were all listening to me and I was the worst dad in the world and they all thought I was an asshole.  Wow.  This from the women that gave me full custody of Kaley 6 years ago because she couldn't handle it.

Some much for my peaceful little getaway.

I love my kid very much and she is smart, sweet and beautiful.  She called me a short time later and apologized.  The other women, I don't have such nice things to say about, so I shall stay quiet about them.  I won't event get into my sisters who I believe were the ones that made the anonymous calls.  I am surrounded by crazy chicks.

I am sure they have another story, but this is my blog

I will tell you guys a little secret.  Outside of Kaley being disrespectful, all the other women I just laugh at.  They think they are getting me mad but I find great pleasure and amusement by watching and listening to them spin out of control.  It's better than a movie and sure is better than me getting upset about it.

I made a few calls and handled the emergencies for the moment, then headed toward Canada.  It was a wondrous, cool, rainy day in the Vermont mountains.  I headed past the Killington ski resort, the land formations bubbling up like multi colored ice cream scoops emanating from the ground.  The crisp, wet air smacking me in the face.  A good day to be alive.  Those poor bastards in the south, schvitzing through record heat.

My phone rang and I saw it was my buddy Marc.  "I got some bad news for you," he said.  OK let me have it.  "A huge branch from one of the oak trees, hanging over your house, just snapped over your roof. There are holes in your roof and structural damage.  I will cover it the best I can,"  he told me.

It sure is good to have friends.  OK now what?  I could still make it to Canada I thought.  I checked my map.  I will go head to Saratoga Springs, lay out my map, get some lunch and re-evaluate.

Saratoga Springs was a great little horse track town in NY.  Cool little mom and pop shops with a definite horse racing theme.  I saw a Borders bookstore and pulled into their parking lot.

AARRGFGH!!!!!  What the hell.  I tried to walk and my groin muscle had tightened up badly.  I could hardly walk.

Strike 3.

What a day.  First the kid crisis, then the tree on my house, now my freaking groin.

I hobbled to the statue of a horse, looked at the horses ass and mad a quick video with a statement about how I felt.  I knew I had to head home.

While writing this story, I met a sweet college girl named Mary Kate, whose shoulder I cried on for a few moments.  She was great.  Of course the wifi at Borders went out for a moment and I lost my whole story.  Just perfect.  I am writing this in my living room now, after yesterday's 24 hour straight hour ride home.  I will never do that again, but that is another story.

I shall keep up my blog.  Just need a few days to pontificate.  I have lost 10 lbs of the 20 I have intended.  I won't stop my FAN idea until it is complete.  I will continue in Florida for a while, getting into some of the cool towns like Indialantic, Fl, Melbourne, Fl, Melbourne Beach, Fl, my beach condo, Tuckaway Shores in Indialantic etc.

Then I will head to my Canadian land in time for the leaves to change.   Stand Bye for Action.
