The Roanoke Island McDonald's did me good today.  I used their wifi for 3.5 hours and finally started figuring out how to work all this technology.  I also got a nut and fruit cup for breakfast for $2.00.  It was yogurt, walnuts and apple slices and was delicious.  200 calories. I actually felt sorry for the many obese customers gorging on fries, burgers and McMuffins.

It was around 2:00 pm now and I started heading north along the outer banks, remembering the huge sand dunes I saw as I backtracked yesterday.  Turns out that it is a state park in Kitty Hawk that has some of this country's tallest natural sand dunes.

It was record setting heat, index 115 they told me.  I was determined to get in a wicked workout and run those dunes till my lungs burst.  I guzzled massive amounts of water and got a few tips from the rangers.

Once started the heat and the softness and hills of the sand were intense.  It was like a beach run on steroids.  I was about 10 minutes into the run when I noticed a four wheel drive cart coming towards me with tow rangers on it.

The rangers stopped about 50 yards in front of me and got out.  Was I in trouble?  No.  It was so hot they were going to conduct and experiment to see if they could fry an egg on top of one of the dunes.  They had a gun that gave a temperature reading of the sand.  It got up to 138 degrees.  Hot, but not hot enough. I used my I Phone 4 to search what temp. it needed to be and it said 145 at a minimum.

It made for some great video and camaraderie.  I chugged more water out of the cooler they brought, said goodbye and started running these dunes of hell.  I was out there for 50 minutes and hit the wall.  Easily the most I ever sweated.  It was awesome.

Wasn't sure where to go next.  I know I am heading north to Canada and possibly Nova Scotia, but for today, I wanted a hotel with wifi and some AC.  The traffic heading south coming into the outer banks was bumper to bumper for 40 miles.  What are these people doing?

From outer space, aliens must look at this behavior like we watch ants marching endlessly in formation.  When one ant steps out of line it is considered dangerous and must be stopped.  Are us humans any different?

We box ourselves in with marriage, jobs, religion, laws, mortgages, finance payments.  Then when we want to be free, it is too frightening.  So we grind it out, taking pills and suffering through this one opportunity to do something special in this existence.  Too scared to be different.  A life squandered.

I am going the opposite direction.  Heading to uncharted experiences.  I believe I shall use my phone and book a room on Hotwire.  Found one for $59.00 at the Richmond Super 8.  Gonna download my photos and use my Yelp App and find some great seafood and listen to some music.
