The small island of Lembongan is a about twenty kilometers off the coast of Bali. Several good surf spots are along the reefs of this tropical isle. Only a few trucks and scooters zip along the isles singular narrow asphalt road. A half dozen temples are located near the heart of the villages that occupy the island. Grids of seaweed skirt the shore as it is grown in the shallow lagoon surrounding the island. Levi and I headed over to the isle for some surfing. We met a few classic characters on our four day stay at this slow paced piece of Indo. 2 Brazilians, an Argentino,an Austrian, and I all ended up hanging out together during the surf sessions at Shipwrecks. It's a beautifully shaped right hander that races along for about 75 meters. After a long surf we would trade stories and talk trash mostly about the "f###ing prick" who ruined the mood in the water as soon as he paddled out. He would curse at people, get in the way, drop in and just be the most obnoxious person he could muster. He was truly a man with many disturbing issues. On top of that he considered himself a local, but he was Kiwi, about as local as a palm tree in Siberia. Besides the jerk in the water being a retarded pig the time on the island was beautiful. Surf, sleep, eat. What a life.
