Chris and I made our way to San Carlos to check out some surf spots near this little town. We dragged our gear to the taxi stand and waited for about two hours. After no taxis came a hostel owner offered us a lift to her place. I was very happy for the lift and said, ¨"Gracias". However she had already hit the gas and was down the road. Our shouts didn´t help. So A thirty minute hike later dragging our heavy board bags and backpacks we made it to Hostal Costal Azul. We touched the water for the first time and discovered it to be bath warm. The surf there was ok. I had some really fun point break waves that pealed into a bay. They were racetracks perfect for my little fishshaped board and perfect for making me happy. We stayed there a couple of nights and enjoyed the slower pace of this little town. I met a married couple there. A Cuban doctor who hates the "evil" jews, and his Panamanian wife were practicing their english with me. He offered me medical help if I ever need it while in Panama. I need a ton of work on my man boobs and sagging butt cheeks. I kid. I kid. The lack of swell caused us to move on towards Santa Catalina. So we jumped on a bus and away we went.
We made it to Sona the town before Santa Catalina. This where staying in a peach colored closet for two above a bar in the tropics of Panama is my idea of paradise. The matress has two perfect holes where a pair of knees have worn through. I dub the mattress the naughty bed. Chris Oxkiller got the comfortable yet firm spooning mattress. Before heading to bed on the seedy mattress I decided to go eat. We went to a BBQ stand on the street and had a feed of chicken and papas fritas. Extremely tastey and extremely cheap. For everything it was $3.00 together. Thats 1.50 for me and 1.50 for Chris. Met a Panamanian twenty year old teak tree planter. He earns a total of $6.00 per day of work. Nice guy. Hard worker. Loves morenas. Managed to get all tatted up on that wage. Makes me feel lucky to be an eductated American.
The locals seem to accept you okay. Must be your Spanish is not too bad and of course your winning smile and laid back attitude help too. Too bad the surf petered out on you. Next horizon...Love, Dad
