Woke up very early, leaving the hotel at 5:30 to go up in a hot air balloon around the area.  It was still dark as we drove out to the site.  However, it was too windy as there was a typhoon hitting HongKong, so we couldn't go up.  Oh well, bad luck.

We were originally going to go bike riding after the HOt air balloon but given how hot everything has been we decided that it maybe wasn't very wise. However the day was much cooler than we thought, so we probably could have gone quite comfortably. Hindsight is 20/20 as they say.  So I had a free day.

Since it was still too early for breakfast, Lorraine and I went and shot a few pictures by the Li river.  During our breakfast, where I had of particular note, really good plain yoghurt,  Euen asked if we would want to take a calligraphy class.  So we did.  It was a scream.  You would think it would be easy to paint a straight line,  but it is actually a lot harder than you think!  But I really liked it, and I think I might even take some formal classes when I come home, as it was very relaxing.  It takes years of practice to be come a master.

The rest of the day was spent shopping for a few souvenirs with some of the gang, had dumpling lunch and ginger tea with Lorraine, then had a full body massage.  I then spent a couple of hours on my travel photos and blog.

Met up again with the whole group at 4pm to drive up the river to take a boat ride down the Li river.  It was dark for late afternoon, with clouds threatening to rain.  But for the most part it held off so that we could take some pretty dramatic shots of the looming clouds and the limestone hills in silhouette.  Dinner was a free option, so Frank, Helen, Lorraine and I, the singletons on the trip, had dinner as a local place, Drifters, but we had the local specialities, of beer fish and Yangshuo fried rice,  and a couple of other dishes. It was all delicious. We ended off with chocolate Ice drinks.  They are delicious, as rich tasting as chocolate milk, but made with ice, so not nearly so heavy.  Packed and went to bed.
