Got up early and went to the Temple of Heaven where the emporor would pray to the gods. Of course the building is beautiful, but it is surrounded by a huge park. Everyone goes to meet there and chat, exercise, practice instruments, play cards or dominoes, whatever. It is a hub of activity and very interesting slice of Chinese life.

Then we drove 3 hours to the Great Wall, to an area not very popular with tourists. it is a rougher, more demanding trek. Man was it hard!!! Some parts are so steep. Other parts are in great disrepair it is a bit dangerous to walk on it. I had a very nice guide, and she helped me up some of the really steep uneven bits.

It was a late day back to the hotel.
