First you need to know the story of the clock. The story goes that a young boy (goat herd) of Poznan, lost control of his goats and they ran amok through the town. On trying to round them up the boy discovered a large fire in the town so was able to alert the authorities before the whole town was destroyed-and so in theory the goats saved the town. So the town built a mechanical clock in honour of the goats and the saving of the town from ruin. And it is a really cool clock! So every day at noon everyone congregates in the town square. The clock chimes 12 times and then two goats come out of the tower. They both reverse to opposite ends and then head butt each other 12 times. And then come together and reverse back into the tower. Is really fun to watch and everyone stands around the clock and counts the head butts-which adds to the atmosphere and makes it even more fun. :)
It is actually a really beautiful town and the market square is very beautiful with lots of fantastic old buildings. Up a side street is a beautiful baroque church. Sometimes you get a bit church and castled-out when in Europe, but this church is a must see-there is something special about it and it isn't 'overdone' like a lot of churches.
We arrived very late in Berlin so ended up getting room service for dinner (absolutely lovely room service staff). Feeling a bit homesick-think it is because apart from the fantastic Aussie family the rest of the people on the tour aren't that great. And still have a really bad flu.
