Yesterday drove from Glasgow to Liverpool. Stopped off at Gretna Green on the way. Had an interesting-looking museum on the history of Gretna Green but didn't have any money so couldn't go. Interesting how the reason everyone went there is because in Scotland you only needed a witness to say you were married (they have changed this now) so people would head over the border from England to elope and the the first place they came to was the Blacksmiths-so he would witness their marriage.
Drove through the Lakes District. Very pretty. Stopped off for lunch at Grassmere where Wordsworth lived. Had lunch and saw Wordsworth's grave. Would have liked to check out Dove cottage where he lived but didn't have time :(
On to Windermere for a boat and steam train ride. Would have rather gone to Hill Top Farm-home of Beatrix Potter. Yes I know I am whinging! Will try and be more positive!!!
Had an excursion today. Drove first to Llangollen in North Wales. Very cute village. Very pretty. Drove over the Horseshoe Pass. Stopped for photos at side of the road where there was a very friendly sheep!
Next went to Chester and had some free time. Very quaint city. Looks 16th Century but apparrently was rebuilt in the 19th (?) Century after a fire to look as it originally had. Nice to just look at the shops. In the afternoon we headed back to Liverpool for a tour with a local guide. Fantastic guide who was very interesting. Specialised in Beatle trivia. Saw lots of Beatle sites like John Lennon's childhood home and Penny Lane and Strawberry Fields etc. Took us to Liverpool Cathedral which was cool. Very interesting guide. Cool city and had a cool waterfront. Then we went on to a pub for a traditional 'Scouse' Supper which is beef and potato stew with pickled cabbage. Sounds weird but is actually nice and it works well together.
