Yesterday had an early start so we could visit mad King Ludwigs castle. Beautiful drive. Lots of rain and fog though. First really bad weather of trip so didn't really get many good photos of the castle. But was really cool and the inside was great too. Had lunch at a restaurant below the castle and had the most fantastic potato soup-not sickly creamy like some are.
Stopped at Liechtenstein-one of the smallest principalities. Very cute. Got a stamp in my passport-YAY! Then long drive to Lucerne. Bit hungover from the beer.
When we arrived at Lucerne went to the Lion monument-is a memorial to all the swiss guards killed protecting the king during the french revolution. Very cool monument.
Dinner at fondue house-though no cheese fondue-but chocolate fondue for dessert :(
None for me-but guide organised me a fantastic fruit dessert instead! YAY.
Today went up the Gondolas and cable car to the top of Mt Pilatus. The sheep and cows really DO wear those bells-and you could hear them all the way up! Was very rainy and foggy at the top so didn't see much but still had a walk around. Was 2 degrees Celcius!! Bit of a shock to the system after being in 35 degree heat!!!
Went back down the mountain on a railcar-they claim is the steepest in the world (thought the Blue Mountains one was?). Caught a boat at the bottom for a cruise up the lake back to Lucerne. Had a few free hours back in the city till dinner. Dinner included a swiss show at the restaurant 'Stadfkeller'. They did flag-throwing, yodelling etc. A couple of the guys from the tour had a go at horn-blowing and yodelling.
Got to have cheese fondue-YAY!!
