I throughly enjoyed having class later this morning. I was able to sleep in, go for a run, and take my time getting ready. Also, I can now walk to class instead of taking the hectic metro. My walk to class is beautiful. I pass along the Seine and then directly through the gardens behind Notre Dame. Not a bad start to the morning!

After classes today I went to the famous cemetary, Pere Lachaise, where Oscar Wilde, Frederick Chopin, and Moliere are all buried among others. It took me over 3 hours to locate all of the graves I wanted to see and to trek all through the cemetary. It is really a beautiful place with huge trees and the most elaborate graves I've ever seen. It was interesting to see the different ways that people payed tribute at each grave. For example at Chopin's grave there were flowers crowded all around the headstone, but on the other hand there was Jim Morrison's grave which had a few flowers but also about a dozen cigarettes (not smoked) tossed into the site. Oscar Wilde's grave is one of the most famous graves at Pere Lachaise. It is covered completely with "graffiti." People have written quotes from his plays all over the grave and kissed his grave despite the sign that asks visitors to not deface the grave.

Now I'm back at home realaxing some. I'm having dinner with Monica tonight and tomorrow I am planning on visiting the Pompidou museum and then we have an excursion to Vaux le Vicomte (another chateau) in the evening.

Goofy Graves
Hi Kristina,
I have to say, I'd rather have flowers than cigarettes at my grave - but guess once you're dead it probably doesn't matter a whole lot to the deceased.

It is 50 degrees here this morning on the mountain, but has been getting up in the 80's and sunny in the afternoon. We've seen some beautiful views of Mt. Hood. We went out to Trillium Lake (where we snowshoed). The view of Mt. Hood is outstanding! All we saw was a mass of snow and snow covered foot hills. The real view is awesome of the mountain. You can see the roof of Timberline Lodge and the ski slopes from the bridge that overlooks the lake. You'd be amazed.

Have a good day! I love you!
Love,
Mom

Oops
I should have read what I wrote. I meant to say that when we snowshoed all we were able to see was a field of snow (i.e., the lake) and snow covered foothills. In the summer you see the lake (with lots of kayakers) and the mountain rising above the trees.

Re: Goofy Graves
I agree! I'd rather have flowers too. I'm glad that the weather is nice for you all. Here it is so variable! Sometimes it is really HOT and then it can get to be cool and rainy just the very next day. This just means that whenever I got out I always have to have my sunglasses, my umbrella, and a jacket with me.
