Saturday I slept in (all the way to 9:30!). I had lunch at the cafeteria and then went to the Catacombs. The line was of course long but I had luckily brought a book along with me so the time passed by quickly.

I was really impressed with the Catacombs. It was definitely creepy to walk past such a vast number of human skulls and bones. Once that sunk in I began to think "wow someone actually took the time to arrange these human remains into patterns!" Beyond the shock though I found the Catacombs to be a really nice contemplative place once I got spread out from the tourists zooming through to take as many pictures as possible. There are inscriptions from famous poets and writers all over. It was nice to get to take my time and read them.

Coming out of the Catacombs I realized I had still a large part of the day left. I decided to have a little adventure. I got on the Metro and chose a random spot away from the places I knew to be touristy. When I arrived at my location I found a very hectic ethnic neighborhood. The rest of the afternoon I walked around and chatted with the people around. I also treated myself to fresh roasted corn which were being sold out of shopping carts. The vendors had shopping carts full of corn and then at the very end a little barrel with coals where they'd roast the corn for you. Not bad for a 1 euro snack!
