 Part two from today...

The trip to Versailles was not bad. It was probably one of the most crowded tourist sites I have ever been to. Versailles was a pretty normal palace in my opinion. The hall of mirrors was interesting. The history behind the palace really was what added interest to the whole thing. Outside the palace the gardens were wonderful. Everyone was spending the afternoon strolling, rowing boats in one of the large ponds, and hanging out on the grass.

Once we all got on the RER to go back into France my friends Maya, Emma, Colin and I decided to get dinner in the latin quarter and then find a lively bar to watch the Euro Cup at. We had another lovely dinner and the waitress who spoke to us only in French was very very nice. After dinner we wandered through the latin quarter and went to a couple of different bars Hotel Window

. The streets were full of people crowded around bars that had TVs near the windows which is where we ended up eventually as well. When we got tired of standing we found a fairly empty cafe and finished watching the game. Once Spain won the streets exploded and got crazy.

We walked along the Seine past Notre Dame, searching for the metro station. Notre Dame was much more specacular at night than during the day. The lights created such mysterous, romantic shadows all over the already intricate architecture.  Right next to the metro station that we were going to get on we came across a bunch of people celebrating Spain's victory by dancing in the fountain in the square. We hung around and cheered with the crowd for a while  It was a little crazy but really fun. On the way back everyone was talking to about the game on the metro which was great French practice.

I got back to the hotel around 11 and now I'm getting ready to sleep! Tomorrow we have one more orientation (though I don't know what more information they could possibly give us!), a tour of Notre Dame, and a boat tour on the Seine.

Great photos and stories
Hi Kristina,
I'm really enjoying the stories and the photo in the fountain of Spain after their victory was super! It 'described' the feeling of the moment well. I'm so glad you are getting good language exposure as that was such a priority. Viva la France! (my only French). All is well here. Robert and I have caught up on our sleep and replenished our fluids after camp. Troop 89 got 'top troop' at camp - which hasn't been done in anyone's memory, so it was a big deal. The scouts really worked hard and played hard at camp. I love you! Love, Mom
