The full moon (which has particular importance to the Balinese Hindus) falls on this day and ceremonies are held throughout the Hindu temples all across Bali. The Balinese that adhere to the Hindu Dharma religion will take offerings of food, fruit and flowers to the temple to be blessed by a priest. It is the essence of theses offerings that will be enjoyed by the deities. The Balinese themselves are then blessed by performing various rituals using holy water, incense smoke, petals and rice grains.

We met Irwin for breakfast and then we set out in his car for a day of temple visiting around Ubud. It was a special religious day linked to the closest full moon and I was looking forward to seeing the temple’s filled with locals and just be there enjoying the celebrations. The lovely Irwin gave us a beautiful Jasmine flower which I wore in my hair all day. I kept getting whiff’s of the beautiful fragrance from the flower - magical! J First we visited Goa Gajah which is an ancient temple area only recently discovered. Climbing down too the temple area we were met by a coolness from the surrounding trees. Then we went onto another temple which I cannot remember the name of. I will try and find out some details. LOL This temple is visited at religious ceremonies and people bath is the holly waters. It was really amazing to watch everyone line up to get under each different ‘fountain’ for specific blessings, with all the offering flowers floating on the water surrounded by big, beautiful trees, people’s chatter filling the air.

After an exhausting but wonderful day out we went back to relax at the hotel. Irwin met us in the evening and we went off to a local warung for dinner which was so yummy! I had really wanted to go and see a Balinese puppet show. There was a bit of a mix up and Irwin had understood that we wanted to see a Kechak fire dance. So after dinner he organised a local ticket tout to take us to a dance, but Trinita and I weren’t in on the organisation of this so when Irwin left us to go pack and suddenly this man was being very persistent (because he had had instructions from Irwin to look after us and take us too the dance - we didn’t know this at the time) which freaked us out. We started walking away and he just kept following us…so we started to run!!! On finding out the next day the reason why he was following us there was much hilarity but at the time we just bolted and left him in the dust! Oh lordy! Anyway, to cut a long story short we eventually stumbled upon the puppet show purely by chance and watched the last 10 minutes of it. It was ok but we both agreed it wouldn’t have been worth the money had we found it earlier! LOL We ended up having a great night! When we got back to the hotel we went for a swim and watched the amazing moon…it really was a spectacular moon that night….
