I'm paid up at Leeways until next Friday (NZ$110 for a week, which is less than US$80), so I'll be spending this week continuing to call around to the vineyards and look for work. I'll also be deciding whether I want to just go ahead and move on after this week if I can't get work. There's a party this weekend I'll probably stay for, but after that there's a good chance I'll go ahead and go to Queenstown and get in some of the activities I've been looking forward to: snowboarding, skydiving, all that jazz. But who knows just yet; I'll decide as the time gets closer.
Sorry for the lack of entries, but there's really not a ton to update about at the moment. I moved to Leeway's Backpackers, which is resoundingly better than Arrow. Aside from the facilities just being better in general, the staff is friendlier and the entire atmosphere better. It feels more like some big house we're all sharing than a lodging we're all having to pay to stay at, if that makes sense. There's a lot more interaction between the hostel guests than at Arrow as well. Aside from watching copious amounts of TV and movies with people since I don't have a job yet, we've also played poker and I've gotten into some good discussions on everything from politics (ug; I try to shut those down as soon as possible) to whether Celsius or Fahrenheit is better (I don't care, but when a British guy is telling me it's America's biggest flaw, I have to put up a token fight). While I haven't been able to find a job yet (all the vineyards have been filled up), I've been able to keep from being bored with the afore-mentioned activities and things like reading or taking a bike out. I did end up going to see Transformers 2 one day as well. I enjoyed it because it gave you exactly what it offered you: giant robots fighting other giant robots.
