Arrived and grabbed a mini-bus for what appeared to be about an hours drive. Fare was cheap, about $6.00. Was full, except for one empty seat which should have been occupied but this guy insisted on sitting in the front with the driver - which is generally a no, no. All his buddies were in the rows behind and I'm pretty sure he thought they were a good 20 meters away from him based on the level of his conversation. Of course, his buddies did the same. Loud, rude a very disrespectful to the driver.
When the driver arrived at their destination, he couldn't pull into the road where their guest house was and the guy up front was telling him they weren't going to walk, blah blah blah
Alright so found the hotel and checked-in, then the next thing on the list was to phone my contact for a Visa run to Cambodia early the next morning. She came over right away and got the business of the day sorted out. Excellent, visa expires the next day, so Cambodia it is, although I suspect I won't be seeing any of it cause these are turn, checkout of Thailand, into Cambodia, out of Cambodia and back into Thailand runs. Turn and burn... Time to kill so checked out the pool area and relaxed in the beauty heat.
Next day was an early one alright. Went down early, but I was one of the last pickups so it was 45 min's of waiting. Oh well, they had left front row seats open, so grabbed one of them. Traffic here is like all places I've seen in SE Asia thus far (exception being Ko Samui). Finally got somewhat out of the City and holy mother effer this driver Loved speed!!! At one point the speedometer read 147kph. He doesn't mess around!! The mini bus was full for the trip and man oh man you could tell the smokers on the bus - hackity hackity hack. Oddly enough it was only the men.
As suspected, arrived at the border, right thru immigration, into a waiting area on Cambodia side and they finished up all the paperwork, then back thru immigration again. No chance to see any of the country unfortunately. Next time I do want to see Cambodia again, as well as Laos and Thailand. Not sure when that will happen. By the time we got back it was close to 4:00 so decided to go for a walk, get a foot massage and have some Thai dinner. Then I popped onto the artist alley and talked to a guy about getting some paintings done. Told him I'd bring the photos tomorrow. got home and decided to relax with a TV series I picked up in Pattaya on DVD.
Next bunch of days I hung out by the pool during the day and walked around several km's during the evenings stopping here and there for water, juice or a beer. Mostly juice cause it's super fresh. Kept going for dinner at the Kiss Club restaurant cause it was CHEAP!!!
There were several people I saw each day up at the pool so they were there for a week or more and got to know them quite well
Did manage to check out a movie, went bowling and played some pool. Met Theresa (or Reese as she prefers) from Australia and we ended up 'hanging out' a couple nights. Had a blast during my time in Pattaya and would go back, but rather see more of the Islands and check-out Krabi. Time went by quickly considering it was pretty low-key. Got the paintings I had commissioned and was quite happy with them. Managed to find a post office and had them mailed to my mom and dad's for $45. Will be great seeing them when they arrive there.
Got thru one book and started into a Stephen King book, but was hard to read cause we all wanted to visit poolside with each other. Kinda became like a little family, so was quite nice indeed
It was during one of the 3 rainy afternoons I decided screw it, I'm going to see if AirAsia goes to Vietnam and, if so, if they are reasonably priced. Woohoo they do and they were. Researched hotels and voila, trip booked. Afterthought was to see if there were any requirements for entering Vietnam and holy shit there was! Applied online to get a letter of approval to enter the country. Got it just in time! Still raining so decided to relax and watch more of the TV series I was into. What a great way to spend some time when it's rainy out.
Took it easy the last couple days before heading to Vietnam and did a bit of research during the evenings so I knew what to expect when arriving and while there. Next stop: Ho Chi Minh City!
