Where I stayed
Had a bit of a wait in Narita, Tokyo, so popped in and had a couple of local beers thinking that would help with the sleep on the next leg to Bangkok. Popped into the washroom and washed the face, brushed the teeth and changed into cooler clothing. No more jeans for 2 months!!!!
Totally forgot about the disembarkment procedure in Bangkok....off the plane onto a bus which brought you straight to the immigration/arrivals area. There was barely a line-up as the Thai guy let us go thru the residents area - sweeeeet!!! Nice first experience.
First stop, ATM and grabbed 15,000baht = about $500 Canadian, then luggage was there and ready. Off I go to the meter taxi area (otherwise they'll rip you off).
Got to Khaosan road and cabbie couldn't go in as it's closed to traffic, so started to walk down the road looking for the hotel. Found it without much issue at all and so many memories came back. This was a partay street so thought "shit, it's going to be loud it the room". But alas, I was in the back, so no noise at all - YES!!!!! It's now about 12:30am and I'm friggin wired. Soooo, put luggage away, grab some cash and rest in the safe.
Grabbed a beer Chang and started to wander the street. Loud thumping music with sooooo many drunk farang. Really discouraged me from drinking a lot, so stuck with one and made it last. Next on the list was some street vendor noodles. Nummy!!! Then of course the next was a foot massage in hopes to prevent the cankle syndrome from happening the next day lol. Ahhhhhh, then headed back to the room after a couple hours to try to get some zzzzz's before heading down to Phuket the next day.
Didn't sleep very well, but got up the next morning to a bunch of very sour looking people. Myself and the Thai people appeared the only ones smiling that morning....very grateful I behaved myself. Grabbed a coffee at a MacDonald's on the street and then some noodles from a vendor setting up for the day. Day time on this road and night time are two completely different beasts that's for sure.
Negotiated for a cab to the airport and holy shit the traffic in Bangkok is something else...as bad as I remember it! Much better late at night. Tried to see if I recognized any places, but only a couple were familiar. I did, however, see the Google Street Car and was tempted to flash the guy but then thought "nah, I don't want to be one of those people whose photo from GSV is in a compilation of funky google street view shots". So I waved instead - boring, but probably a Very Good decision.
Took about 50+ minutes to get to the domestic airport, checked in and luggage was overweight (brought more toiletries and Crown Royal), so paid the extra fee and away I went. Flight went quickly and napped due to the lack of sleep the night before.
