I've noticed a deterioration in my mom's health with the progression of the Alzheimers, but she still remembers who we are, so embracing that BIG time. Throughout our 13 days I just tried to be the daughter I should be because they were the parents for me growing up!
We did some day trips and had some outings, but pretty much laid low. Wanted to ensure mom kept to her schedule of bowling every week and a day visit to Glacier View.
Dad bought a bread maker so we had a lot of fun with that. He is definitely not a man for details which is why the loaf of bread he tried to make on his own while I was out with mom didn't turn out at all. So with a little supervision we managed to pull off making several loaves over the time I was there. I'm confident he'll do just fine, but will have to keep it up!
We went out for dinner for my birthday and were planning to go to The Avenue, but there was a private function, which explained why there were sooooo many vehicles there. I was the designated driver (wow times have changed for the better). Ended up going to Martines which always has pretty good food!
We hung out at home and had cake that mom wanted to tap into for the past 5 days - damn it was funny! Strawberry shortcake cake - wooohooooo nummy. Mom and I watched a movie while dad hung out in his man cave!
Off tomorrow down to Victoria for 5 days before heading overseas! Planning on a quick stop near Cowichan Bay to visit with a friend I haven't seen in over 2 years who had lost her partner in that time and had another baby. That I'm very much looking forward to, plus seeing my seeeester Brenda and some friends I've known for quite some time.
