Our cab driver got us here toot suite and I tell ya, and we were just in awe as we drove (or were driven) to our hotel. Man there is some really old ruins here! We got to our hotel and thought "hey, it looks nice from the outside" so proceeded to check in and check out our room. Holy shit and a half this place is rock n roll compared to our room in Napoli. We have four friggin balconies, can you believe it!
Our first morning brought us to – ok, wait for it...more walking, yep we walked and walked and walked and ended up seeing several of the places that are suggested for the Roma Pass. Hah, we did it for nothing! We checked out the Pantheon (2 kings buried there), the gothic church and I can’t remember how many Piazza’s! Let’s just say lots n lotsa. Ended up hooking up with the rest of the gang that was still traveling in these parts for din din just up from the Trevi Fountain – holy spectacular! We went to a time machine video presentation that gave us a good overview of the history of Roma. It made a lot more sense as we walked around to different places. Gwen & Sherry bought more Xmas gifts. Our family isn’t trading gifts this year so wasn’t in the same mind set for shopping.
Got together with everyone for dinner and had a grand ole time. Many a laugh and sharing stories to date, plus tips for the next adventures awaiting everyone. Shared stories we already had been through and figured we would get together again on Tuesday for din din
Me, Sherry & Gwen decided to trek it back to the hotel and did so gradually, enjoying stuff along the way. Oh yeah, did I mention Gelato? Num, friggin num. I’m soooo grateful Mia couldn’t finish her chocolate cause I got to eat the rest of it. Tina, TL, Marty, Mia and Kaylie headed home while me, Sherry, Gwen, Gracie and Chris decided to go and enjoy another bottle of wine whilst in Roma. Found a restaurant down the road (10 min’s). En route we watched this gal paint an amazing picture with spray paint. After our second bottle of wine we decided (actually the restaurant decided – closing time) it was nights end. We hiked our way back home – about 25 minutes, some of it up hill, and were just happy to be home after being out all day long – walking about 15-18 km’s today. Do you think we could sleep? Nope, it was waaaaaay too hot in our room. But of course we didn’t notice the thermometer until the next day – duh!!! Opened the windows for a bit – but the noise and fear of mosquito’s invading our room kyboshed that idea in about 15 minutes.
After a restless night, we were up and at er early grabbing breaky from the 6th floor, which was the top floor. Had a great breaky to start the day, then walked towards the Roman Forum, Palestine Hills and the Colisseum – holy eff off batman, these places were beyond amazing
After our 15 km hike, we decided to head to another friggin Piazza. Well Jan’s getting a little bit cranky cause her feet are sore and I’ve discovered so are the others. Well if Sherry doesn’t spot a Thai massage sign, so we followed the instructions and decided to get our feet massaged for a glorious one hour. Woohoo, we have renewed feet – bring on a marathon! Let me at em....that was the most amazing refreshing one hour ever (yep, I caught myself snoring – damn it)
Found the piazza after our massage and bought a bit of art work, then settled in for a bottle of wine. After the wine it was our mission to find Jan a nice brown leather jacket. Well I don’t know how many stores we went into but couldn’t find one. But on our last road home if Gwen didn’t spot a wholesale leather place and we popped in. Tried on many a XXL women’s jacket, but the moment I flexed my bicep the friggin jacket seams almost exploded. So the lady (who was just awesome) said “you must play sports for a long time” and decided to fit me with a men’s jacket, which was even nicer (in my opinion). She was saying I had the big shoulder, arm problem and she had the big boob problem which amounted to a good chuckle. Got my jacket picked out and the tailor pinned the jacket to tailor to my size! Woohoo, tomorrow I get my new jacket! There was a moment of guilt when leaving cause I knew an animal contributed to my happiness. I have no doubt the meat was used in many a restaurant though and had to keep thinking that thought.
Finished our final walk back to the hotel and grabbed the laptop, then went for a night cap, and send off an e-mail to confirm reservations at Tullio’s tomorrow night to the rest of our friends for 10 of us. Our tarbender was just excellent and had lived in Rome for a long time. We ended up chatting with a couple from Germany. Had a good visit, a couple beers, then headed back so we were ready for an early morning tomorrow. It’s the Vatican for a good chunk of the day tomorrow!!
