Well we had a slight delay in Iloilo for our flight to Manila which has us a little bit nervous as there was only 2.5 hours in between arrival and international departure to Bangkok. All was well though as we found a transfer desk and they took us over to the International airport from the domestic.
Hung out around the airport for a bit and took advantage of duty free knowing full well our next destination was going to be for a length of time - yippee! Tried to waste some time, then headed downstairs to our departure gate and noticed nobody there! Still had 10 minutes before the plane was to leave. Well nice we didn't have to wait. Felt a bit guilty, but then 4 others came on board after us. Gone was the guilt.
Arrived in Bangkok around 12:30am and going through customs was a breeze. Wow, what a nice new airport compared to the old one - nice layout. As soon as we headed outside we were bombarded with offers of taxi's. Asked how much cause we were curious. Outrageous! They wanted 900 baht ($28). Walked right over to the metered taxi's and we got if for just over 400baht - much better.
Now, let me tell you a bit about our taxi driver....We're quite certain that he wants to be a race car driver and is using his taxi to practice like a pro. I'm not kidding you when I tell you he was going 145km's per hour. I'm pretty sure it was closer to 150 on the gimongous overpasses. Sherry was shitting her pants and I, of course, was lovin it. We did, however, both securely fasten our seat belts. Made it to the hotel in 30 min's - again a feat worth mentioning.
By the time we arrived everybody else was in bed, so we had a night cap and hit the hay ourselves. Got up around 9:00 and worked our way downstairs to greet Kent, Laura and Mary. They were so excited to see us.
Laura's comments still stick in my mind: "right on Jan's here now, so we don't have to work so hard anymore". Ah to be with folks that are familiar to the area. Sure helps and fully appreciated Rey & Vi's familiarity with Philippines.
Off to Phuket we go and again, 145 was the norm speed. Especially got a kick out of the fact our taxi driver blew past the traffic cops - who would've thought! Must pay him well, heheh. More Later folks...
