The next three days I spent completing my open water dive course. Charlotte was my instructor, she was French and really cool and laid back. But I suppose most dive instructors are that way. The first day and a half I spent getting the theory portion out of the way and working on skills. The centre I was doing my course with didn't use a pool to learn in so it was straight into the ocean. But this wasn't a problem. One of the first tasks I had to do was to swim 200 metres, just to prove that I could. I swear it was actually about 400 metres and it was in choppy water. I was exhausted by the end of it.

Getting in and doing some actual dives was great. My first few were right in Dahab and they were probably my favourite. I saw so many different fish, all different colours and great walls of coral and sea plants that I could swim all along. During the course I dove on Banner Fish Bay, Lighthouse and Moray Gardens dive sites.

The first day after my course I went out and headed South from Dahab to do some free dives. The area where we went in was pretty spectacular. It feels like the mountains come right down to the sea and is much less developed than Dahab, with just a few restaurants made from palms. I dived Golden Blocks and Three Pools.

Diving in Dahab was a great experience. Its a great place to learn but I want to go back one day and dive further South in Ras Mohammed National Park and maybe dive on the Thistlegorm.

Other than this, I really didn't get up to much in Dahab. It's that kind of town really. I spent a total of seven days there altogether. It was definitely a good break.
