I live in an apartment with a lady named Maria and her granddaughter Lucilla. I would guess Maria is in her forties and I know Lucilla is 21 months old. I share a room with Julie, who is one of my friends from ISU in this same program. Maria hosts exchange students as a job in a way. She is very nice and caring. She knows no English, and is very patient when conversing with us. She speaks a bit fast, but clear. I am already able to catch the just of what she is saying. In Spain they use a "th" sound instead of other letters which is taking some getting used to. Maria has two other exchange students here. A 20 year old girl named Hecho from China and a 15 year old boy name Ciao from Brazil. Mi casa is actually bigger than I had planned. There is a small kitchen, nice size living room/dining room, two full bathrooms, and 4 good sized bathrooms. It is decorated well and Maria has a lot of nice things.
The first night we arrived, we talked to Maria a bit about ourselves, families, school, and home. This was a little difficult, but between Julie and me we were able to keep track of the conversation. Maria served us soup similar to chicken noodle, meatballs, bread which is called pan and is very popular, and a cake thing for dessert. After dinner we played with Lucilla and watched television, or at least tried to. The show was called "Gente," which means "People" in English, and was about Brad Pitt, Angelena Jolie, Tom Cruise and other known celebrities; therefore, I was able to sort of follow along based on previous knowledge. After that we went to bed..
