I've got one week to go until I leave the country for 6 months to go study abroad in New Zealand. It's pretty exciting, but is also a little nerve-wracking. So to give you, my new found reader, some background on my adventure, I'm spending the first two weeks of my time abroad in Australia, just to explore and travel. And then I will spend the remaining 5 and a half months in New Zealand, and a good amount of that time will be spent studying at Victoria University in Wellington. (click if you want to know more about where I'll be living!) I've been planning pretty heavily these last few weeks (with the help of my mom), attempting to plan out most of what I'm going to do in Australia. This has really helped to keep me calm about traveling half way around the world on my own.
I'm also getting very excited as all of planning from the last 6 months is really coming together, and I'm doing the last few things to prepare myself for going to New Zealand. I knew signing up that there would be a lot of things to do to get ready, but I never realized just how much there would be! Every facet of life that I have here, I have to transfer over there. Sometimes you don't realize how dug in you are in your current life until you try to leave it. I just started assembling all of my possessions last night, to try and figure out what I wanted to take with me. My goal is to travel with just two large bags and a backpack, which I'm realizing is not much for 6 months.
It feels strange to think that I'm actually within 7 days of leaving on this enormous adventure. I've been talking and planning for this for so long. It's also starting to become very real for those around me as well, as my friends and family realize that this is the last time that they'll see me for the next six months, and I feel bad leaving them behind. Even as I look forward to many new exciting experiences.
This is hopefully the first of many blog posts that I will write over the course of the next six months. I plan to also post some pictures with my posts that pertain to what I'm talking about, but if you want to see all of the bazillions of pictures that I plan to take of all the gorgeous locations that I'm going to, I've also got a Flickr page. Which you can access from my Facebook page, or by clicking here. Also feel free to also follow me using Twitter, Facebook, or the Find My Friends iPod app.
