Last night I had a great time; Hung out with a Canadian named Thomas and while we wandered the streets of Paris, we ran into another couple of Canadians, Eddy and Brittany. Ended up spending most of the night with them until we missed the last Metro and had to hang out until 05.30 when it started up again. Needless to say, I've only been awake since about 15.00.
It's official that I'm changing my trip around. Now I'll be leaving Brussels on Aug 9 to fly to London, then take a train to Nottingham. I've already booked the plane ticket, but I am having an incredibly difficult time booking a train ticket (the part I thought would be easiest). The frustrating part is that I can find advance fares for £12 ($24 CDN) but the UK rail companies have this fucked-up policy where they will not sell advance tickets to people who do not have a UK address. I even called them in the UK from Paris and she told me that over the phone. Basically, I can buy a ticket that day at the station, but who knows how expensive it will be or even if I'll end up stranded because there may not be any free seats. I looked at the Travelcuts website and I could buy an advance ticket through them, but for $97 CDN. So, right now I'm extremely pissed off at the UK rail companies and their fucked-up policies. I'll wait to see if there's anything else I can do but because my plane ticket is already booked, I may just have to spend the $97. Grr!
Now I've spent who knows how much money on the internet today trying to sort it all out and I'm starving and need to get supper. I'm not too stressed because in the end it's only money and there are more important things, but the policy and the fact it took me so much time, money, and frustration to figure it all out have gotten me riled up. It certainly won't ruin my trip (especially because I still get to visit Nick and Jon), but it definitely puts a damper on today.

Ooh trains
That sounds really frustrating! I remember that we got super-cheap train tickets to Edinburgh because Lori bought them for us. It was way cheaper than any of the prices posted online. I can't remember if you said you knew anyone in London?
So Nottingham hey? Why the change in plans?
Yeah to mixin it up BOO to frustration!
You are changing your plans, very interesting!
Couldn't you ask Nick and/or Jon if you could use their UK address to get the advanced seat and then still charge it to you?
Hope the french haven't spit on you like they do with their frogs!
Hells to the yeah
I don't know anyone in London, unfortunatly. I'm going to Nottingham to visit Nick and Jon because we hit it off so well.
Re: Yeah to mixin it up BOO to frustration!
Not really because you need the physical credit card in order to pick up the ticket. I just don't understand why the companies can't just let me book an advance ticket.
No spitting yet, but the day is young!
