Location Back at the Easy Internet Cafe at 42nd (b/w 7th and 8th avenue)
Weather Sunny, hot and humid this morning, rainy again outside right now, so I'm inside on the internet.
Upcoming Adventure I have been assigned my first trip and its to Niagra Falls....yippie, they're sending me right back to the Canadian Boarder. We will be driving a 15 passenger van, so I anticipate a fun and exhausing adventure. Its 6 days, so it'll be a while before I get to hit the internet again.
Overture of today Got up early, daily grocery, did some paper work in the office. Helped the others load up (they're going to New England), and off I went to bravely explore Harlem, the East Side and then meet up with Flodie who I will be leading the trip to Niagra Falls with
Harlem Well after being a bit uptown and seeing how nice it is, I figured I wouldn't be so bad at all if I went straight into Harlem and to see what its like. The upper west side is where I think Miranda would like to live, classy clean and sloping streets. Anyways, at about 119th street, I realized...this may not be such a good idea. I had to be the only non african american person within a mile radius...I got off the bus and I could tell everyone was looking at me thinking that asian girl is lost! The stores were all cultural clothing from africa, fried chicken and Gangsta wear, so I decided I got the feel of the place from the bus, skipped my Harlem exploration and caught a bus crosstown to Lexington Avenue.
Barrio aka Spanish Harlem Below East Harlem pass the Triborough Bridge at about 110st East, we enter Barrio (which means Neighbourhood in Spanish) Its a pretty undedrdeveloped area, but I see that its like home to the Spanish/Latino people who live here. Just a bit more downtown at about 86th street, it gets a lot nicer and the buildings/condos are so pretty. The kinds with the doorman and such. I feel like this is where Charolotte would live. Bloomingdales is also on Lexington along with the other big name shopping stores.
East Village/Greenwich/Soho/Noho/Tribeca/Meat Packing District I got off at Union Station and walked arond Union Square and all the markets that were happening before I met up with Flodie on 14th and 7th Avenue. We just talked about everything as we walked aimlessly around the area, we never knew where we were but it was in one of the Villages or most of them. It was disgustingly humid so we hit up The Gray Dog Cafe for some iced coffees. I love the cafes here! Every one of them has their own flavour! I wish my French was good enough to converse in, I could have used some practice. The clouds were looming overtop and it looked like a storm was coming, so after enjoying the better part of the day, we said our good byes and headed off.
Coincidence? I think not. So I headed off to use the internet since there is nothing I can do about the rainy weather. Well I was scanning, the computers for a free one, and I think my eyes were playing tricks on me, I saw a guy that looked exactly like Jason, who I had met in Quebec City. We looked at each other like we knew each other...and then I kept walking. I sat down and hesitated for a bit, because I couldn't believe it, and I wasn't sure either...what are the chances? But then I snapped and said, I'll never know if I dont ask, so I got up and went over there to find out if he was infact Jason! But when I went back, he was gone. Just like that. I'll never know, but if it was, I can't believe how fate works...because I remember saying in Quebec after we said bye, it would be to fate if we were to meet again. It would have been awesome, and now I'm kinda sad, cause I really will never know. Ah well, I guess its to fate again.
Mission Accomplished Today completed my explorations. I have been to and know just about all of the major parts of Manhattan. Right from Harlem to the Financial District and Westside to Eastside. The Westside is much clearer because I live there, but today's exploration lead me over the Eastside. My memory has become so much better when you're always using your senses! I think I know by street just about where most things are...it is due to the fact that New York uses the number system which makes life much easier, but I love it!...Now I can get anywhere in Manhattan or at least in the vicinity. And I know which direction Brooklyn, the Bronx, Queens and Staten Island are.
Tomorrow's Itinerary Its the 27th Museum Mile Festival tomorrow, so all the museums from 106 to 83rd street are going to be free!!! YAAY!!!!! Its going to be huge block party! I love museums! I'm definitely going to the Guggenheim, the Metropolitan Museum of Art and MoMA (Museum of Modern Art)...but again, who knows where the day will take me! It's my last solo day before I start working FULL TIME!
For a While Well I think this will be my last Entry for a week or so, I'm off on the trip for a week, and if any writing occurs it'll be in my journal. I wish I could call everyone and write more emails, but I don't have money or time, usually at the end of the day I hit the bed and I'm out. I also have to send postcards!! DAH....so much to do, so little time! Well until I find another computer!
I MISS YOU GUYS! .... Every once in a while, I actually miss home. I guess I'm not such a robot either.

. We walked around Greenwich Village, Tribeca, the Meat Packing District and East Village. Started to Rain, so we parted and I caught the train Midtown back to Times Square, and here I am reading emails, wondering whats going on back home and updating my travelogue.Harlem Well after being a bit uptown and seeing how nice it is, I figured I wouldn't be so bad at all if I went straight into Harlem and to see what its like.
