Arrived in Hong Kong this afternoon, watched BBC news for an hour (hooray), and tried to choose items to discard from my rucksack- is now 17kilo's which isn't as bad as it was but the tour information/advice notes say no more than 10k as you have to carry your bag alot, as are using public transport rather than a big yellow bus on this trip. Unfortunately cant find anything to throw out- must be disciplined; I carried my rucksack on public transport from the airport today to see what it was like, and it bloody killed me- have to lighten the load somehow....
Anyway Hong Kong very expensive and hotel very nice (staying in the Salisbury YMCA next to the Peninsular- same view but a quarter of the price!), off to see the lazer show in a while....

Ok so had a busy few days in Hong Kong, mooching around Big Buddha Hong Kong
Big Buddha Hong Kong
. I met Kathleen my roommate this morning, she is a psychologist from Chicago and so we went to breakfast together, we should meet the rest of the group tonight.
Hong Kong is ok, but there really isn't much to do except shop once you see the main sites like Victoria peak and the big buddha. There is an excellent ceramics exhibition on at the Art Gallery and was lucky enough to turn up just as a free Mozart concert was starting which was great, I also got treated to afternoon tea at the Peninsula by someone I met in the queue. Have to say Hong Kong very easy to get around- excellent transport system and signs in English but as I said there is only the shopping to do and that tends to be either expensive designer stuff (and there are queues outside Versace every time I walk past there!) or fake tat, so of course I bought some genuine prada sunglasses and a nice new purple watch . We leave for China mainland tomorrow, not sure what the internet situation will be so you may not hear from me for a few days...or there may be internet shops everywhere, although isn't access restricted???
